Equipment

  • 1 Medium Saucepan
  • 1 Wooden spoon
  • 1 Large mixing bowl
  • 1 Sieve
  • 1 Baking Tray
  • 2 Oven gloves
  • 1 small square cake tin bread tin

Ingredients
  

  • 112 g butter plus extra to grease
  • 112 g soft dark brown sugar
  • 35 g black treacle
  • 80 g golden syrup
  • 130 ml milk
  • 175 g plain flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 12 g ground ginger
  • 5 g ground cinnamon
  • 5 g bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 egg

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 170°C.
  • Prepare a baking tin with butter and baking paper.
  • Melt butter, sugar, treacle, and golden syrup on a low to medium heat, then cool slightly.
  • Add the milk.
  • Beat the egg.
  • Incorporate the beaten egg,
  • Sift the flour, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl.
  • Then gradually mix in the cooled syrup mixture.
  • Pour into the lined tin
  • Pour into the tin and bake for approx. 40 - 50 minutes.
  • Cool before cutting into squares.
  • serving.- dust with icing sugar.

Notes

  • For even spice distribution, sift your dry ingredients twice.
  • Gingerbread flavor improves with age; store in an airtight container.
