- 112 g butter plus extra to grease
- 112 g soft dark brown sugar
- 35 g black treacle
- 80 g golden syrup
- 130 ml milk
- 175 g plain flour
- Pinch of salt
- 12 g ground ginger
- 5 g ground cinnamon
- 5 g bicarbonate of soda
- 1 egg
Preheat the oven to 170°C.
Prepare a baking tin with butter and baking paper.
Melt butter, sugar, treacle, and golden syrup on a low to medium heat, then cool slightly.
Add the milk.
Beat the egg.
Incorporate the beaten egg,
Sift the flour, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl.
Then gradually mix in the cooled syrup mixture.
Pour into the lined tin
Pour into the tin and bake for approx. 40 - 50 minutes.
Cool before cutting into squares.
